Betaflight 12.4 Breaks iFlight Borg F7 and Blitz F7 — Don't Update

Betaflight 2025.12.4 (May 31, 2026) has a known issue on the IFLIGHT_BLITZ_F722 target: settings refuse to save and the configurator freezes after a few parameter changes. It's not your USB-C cable. Stay on 12.2.

Heads-Up — iFlight Borg F7 / Blitz F7 Users

Do not flash Betaflight 12.4 (released May 31, 2026) onto your iFlight Borg F7 or Blitz F7 flight controller. Your settings will not save and Betaflight will freeze after you configure a handful of parameters.

It is not your USB-C cable. It is not your port. It is a firmware compatibility issue with this specific release on this specific target. Flash 12.2 instead.

The Issue

What Actually Happens on 12.4

Betaflight 2025.12.4 dropped on May 31, 2026. If you're running an iFlight flight controller on the IFLIGHT_BLITZ_F722 target — which covers both the Borg F7 and the Blitz F7 family — the firmware has a known problem:

  • Betaflight Configurator connects normally and appears stable at first.
  • After you toggle a few options or change parameters, the configurator freezes and becomes unresponsive.
  • Clicking Save or navigating to another tab does nothing — the FC stops communicating.
  • Any settings you changed during that session are lost. They will not be written to the FC.
  • Power-cycling the FC and reconnecting resets it to whatever state it was in before the session.

Not Your Cable

The first instinct is always to blame the USB-C cable — and normally that's a reasonable guess for FC connectivity issues. Not this time. Swapping cables, trying different ports, or reinstalling drivers will not fix it. The freeze is triggered by the firmware itself on this target, not the physical connection.

The Fix

Flash Betaflight 12.2 Instead

Betaflight 12.2 does not have this issue on the IFLIGHT_BLITZ_F722 target. Settings save correctly, the configurator stays responsive, and everything works as expected. Until iFlight or the Betaflight team pushes a fix for 12.4 on this target, 12.2 is the stable choice.

1

Open Betaflight Configurator and go to the Firmware Flasher tab.

2

Enable Show release candidates if needed to see older versions in the dropdown.

3

Select your target: IFLIGHT_BLITZ_F722. Use the Detect button if unsure.

4

From the version dropdown, choose 2025.12.2 — not 12.4.

5

Enable Full chip erase and enable No reboot sequenceif your FC doesn't auto-enter DFU mode.

6

Flash, reconnect, and verify that your settings save correctly before you close the configurator.

Already on 12.4?

If you already flashed 12.4, just follow the same steps above to flash back down to 12.2. Use Full chip eraseto clear the 12.4 config and start clean. You'll need to re-enter your rates, filters, and motor mapping, but it will all save properly once you're back on 12.2.

Affected Hardware

Which FCs Are Affected

This issue affects any iFlight flight controller that flashes under the IFLIGHT_BLITZ_F722 target in Betaflight. That includes:

FCStatus on 12.4
iFlight Borg F7Broken — settings do not save, configurator freezes
iFlight Blitz F7Broken — settings do not save, configurator freezes
Other IFLIGHT_BLITZ_F722 variantsLikely affected — test before flying

Other Targets

If you are on a different iFlight FC target — or any other manufacturer entirely — this specific issue may not affect you. The problem is scoped to the IFLIGHT_BLITZ_F722 target in the 12.4 release. That said, always verify your settings save correctly after any major firmware update before you put the quad in the air.

TL;DR

Quick Summary

Problem

Betaflight 12.4 (May 31, 2026) breaks settings saving on iFlight Borg F7 and Blitz F7. Configurator freezes after a few parameter changes.

Not the cause

Your USB-C cable is fine. Your port is fine. This is a firmware-level issue on this target.

Fix

Flash Betaflight 12.2 instead. Full chip erase, select version 2025.12.2 in the dropdown, flash, done.

If you're troubleshooting this right now and your Betaflight is locking up after you adjust a few settings, you're not losing your mind. Flash back to 12.2 and you'll be back in the air.
